Bugloss (Anchusa officinalis) symbolizes falsehood, because of its use in paints. Ornamentation, the root of all evil, the provenance of women. (Though in fairness, that’s not just the Victorians, that’s pretty much all of Western civilization for the past couple thousand years.)
