Odd shifts of perspective

I am now used to seeing park rangers in the city, divorced from anything my mind instinctively interprets as a park. (Basically nature, on a somewhat significant scale; multiple acres, at least, better yet a ways away from a significantly built environment. Anything smaller is a lawn.) But I have just begun to make the shift to reading “park” as a political, rather than a physical, entity, which makes it easier to wrap my brain around park rangers on the el or outside the building where I work. And so reading ruminations on park rangers, in what my mind has no trouble instinctively classifying as a park, disturbs the new paradigm I’ve created based largely on lazy osmosis of repeated stimuli.
